Bihar Sharif has road network of about 86.2 km. This figure not just accounts for municipal road, but also national and state highways passing through this city. The existing road network though is not enough still it caters to the transport needs of the city. As far as connectivity is concerned, then at least on that front Bihar Sharif offers immense advantage. In fact Today Bihar Sharif is one of the important road hubs of Bihar state. National Highway 82 and National Highway 3 passes through Bihar Sharif. While National Highway 82 runs within Bihar state, National Highway 31 provides gateway to Northeast India. Local Transportation in Bihar Sharif

Local transportation in Bihar Sharif solely compromises of auto rickshaws. There is no alternate local transportation option in form of city bus and local trains. Owing to huge monopoly enjoyed by auto rickshaws, they are almost like lifeline for daily commuters of Bihar Sharif. But unfortunately current number of auto rickshaws is far too less to cope with ever increasing number of daily commuters. Nonetheless, Bihar Sharif still has highest number of auto rickshaws than any other city or town of Nalanda district.

From above information it is suffice to sum up that transport infrastructure in Bihar Sharif is quiet efficient. What it needs to do most is fix is to improve the condition of roads and increase the number of auto rickshaws in the city. An efficient and reliable local transportation system will go long way to promote development of local economy. As for increasing rail connectivity, then it is highly unlikely that state government would take any concrete action in this direction in distant future.
